How to Stay Motivated to Achieve Your Goals

Goal setting is a great first step that can help you turn your vision into reality. However, many people seem to struggle with both setting and sticking to their goals. There’s no doubt that maintaining motivation can be challenging.

The following tips can help you stay on the right track and keep you motivated even when you face obstacles and feel like giving up.

  1. Determine your desired outcome
    Ask yourself – where do you hope to be one year from now? What does success look like for you? How will you get there? Be specific. How will you make that goal a reality? You must develop concrete steps to take action. Stating that you want to become a millionaire is way too broad. The action steps can become complicated and overwhelming. Clarity is key.

    Once you have a clear goal, begin outlining your action steps. One of the easiest ways to do this is to start with the end in mind and work backward. This will help you figure out your game plan.

  2. Write your goals down
    Science has proven that writing down your goals makes them more likely to become a reality. The simple act of writing something down has a significant effect on both your memory and your commitment. In addition, by writing your goals down, you’re investing in them and you’re setting your intentions.

    The process of writing your goals down can also help you create your plan. Only writing down your goals isn’t enough. Be sure that you’re adding action steps and deadlines.

  3. Create “I Am” statements
    According to ActionCOACH founder Brad Sugars, “You don’t attract what you want, you attract what you are.” Creating “I Am” statements helps you to set your intentions and to believe them. It also tells the Universe that you’re ready for whatever you’re calling in. For example, if your goal is to start a business as an interior designer, your “I Am” statement might read, “I am in the process of becoming the most popular and sought-after interior designer in the city. I am in the process of building a design empire that will yield my own brand and lead to stellar influencer reviews on Instagram and YouTube.”

Look at your goals and your “I AM” statements every day. Be sure to have a plan—a week, a month, 90 days, one year, and so on. As entrepreneur Jim Rohn said, “Your life does not get better by chance, it gets better by change.” It is up to you to change your reality.
