The Formula for Success
Success is a predetermined formula. There is no secret to success, but there are tried and true principles that have been used time and time again.
1. How we grow ourselves
A person’s mindset plays a key role in his or her ability to achieve success. When a person thinks and acts in a way that is “below the line,” they blame others, make excuses, and live in denial. This mindset plagues most of the population. It is where people give lots of reasons why things don’t work and stuff goes wrong. Success happens for people who stay “above the line.” This is when people take ownership, accountability, and responsibility. This is where people get results.
2. Whether or not we participate
The only failure in life is the failure to participate. In other words, if you don’t participate, you have failed. If you participate, you are going to learn something. You may get a great result, or you may get a bad result, but either way, you will learn from it. If you give 100% in life and in work, you will get 100%.
3. Your attitude toward learning
Think about the teenagers that you’ve been around – how much do they know? They claim to know just about everything! “I know, I know, I know…” is a typical response from a teenager. As adults, do we do the same thing? Typically, we’re worse.
The fact is, when you go into the “I know” mindset, you get stuck in “right” or “wrong” thinking where you’re right and the other person is wrong. Instead, start to replace “I know” with “Isn’t that interesting?” This shift in attitude will help you get the most out of your learning.
In order to change the results that you receive in life and in business, you need to change your mindset. Start to take ownership for your actions, to fully participate in your life, and to move your thoughts away from right vs. wrong. These are the principles that have been used by the most successful people in history, and they will continue to ring true for years to come.
